Anna is a double major in Trumpet Performance and Comparative Literature, with a concentration in Literature and the Arts. Her interests include music, German, film, and all things Borges, Kafka, and Hesse.  

 

 

 

Jesse Anderson-Lehman

Jesse is complementing his CLS major with a minor in Film and Media Studies. His first foreign language is German, and he is participating in the German Department's program in Bayreuth this summer to try and improve his language skills. He is planning on continuing to study Comp. Lit. and / or Media Studies in grad school, so he will probably be starting another language in the fall, most likely either French or Japanese.

Leah Bettag, a native of the city of Chicago, is a Comparative Literature and Fiction Writing double major, with an undeclared minor in Spanish. When not writing and reading, she ballroom dances with BLAST, plays the cello in Philharmonia and dabbles in performance and art when opportunities arise.

Jocelyn is currently a senior double-majoring in CLS and French. She spent the past two quarters in Paris, France, sitting by the Seine, doing her homework at the Musée d'Orsay, and eating crepes as much as possible. Now that she is back in Evanston, she will continue her French and CLS in an honors project dedicated to translating French surrealist poetry to English, and provide commentary on the subject.

Megan is a flute performance and comparative literature double major with a concentration in the fine arts. Living in England for two years as a high school student sparked her interest in and affection for cultures other than her own. She has a familiarity with both Italian and French and looks forward to continuing to explore the music she performs and the literature she reads.

Kat is a CLS major and BIP minor, and will have a concentration in Spanish. She plans on studying abroad in Seville and hopes to apply to the Random House summer internship program in New York. She is extremely interested in publishing, translations, and editing.

David is concentrating on life-style writing which includes personal essays, autobiographies, and the memoir. He studied abroad in Spain for the summer of 2008. He hopes one day to be a teacher.

Stephanie is a Weinberg sophomore, studying - you guessed it - Comparative Literature. She is fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese, and working hard to become fluent in French. Her interests include web design, ballroom dancing, piano, and writing. Her first published novel is The Dream-Quest (iUniverse 2006), but she is now experimenting with different styles of writing. In the CLS office, she designs flyers, organizes the bulletin board, and helps with technological odds-and-ends.

Kirk hails from Minneapolis, Minnesota and expects to graduate in 2012 with a degree in Comparative Literature and German. Kirk has a special interest in Scandinavian Literature of the 20th century (inspired by his years learning Swedish as a child) and his favorite literary work is Independent People by the Icelandic author Halldor Laxness. Kirk particularly enjoys studying the languages, literatures, and histories of cultures outside the traditional "canon" of academia, and he looks forward to doing much of that with the CLS program here at Northwestern.

Edward Sonnenschein

Edward (Ned) Sonnenschein is a senior in the Comparative Literary Studies program with a focus on 20th century critical theory and post-World World II literature and film. He spent his junior year studying abroad in Berlin at the Humboldt-Universitaet. His thesis, tentatively titled "2 or 3 Things I Know About the Culture of the Image," is an exploration of Jean-Luc Godard's film, 2 ou 3 choses que je sais d'elle, through the lens of thinkers such as Jean Baudrillard and Fredric Jameson.

 

 

 

Rebecca TeKolste

Rebecca TeKolste is a freshman CLS major focusing on Spanish, English, and French and an adjunct major in International Studies. She also plans to supplement her language study with an additional study of Arabic, time permitting. She is actively involved in StuCo and Business Manager for Lovers & Madmen, Northwestern's only theatre board with a focus on the classics. She plans to study abroad for the entirety of her junior year and apply for the Peace Corps after her undergraduate work.

 

Kyle Tidd

Kyle is a fourth-year undergraduate in Comparative Literature with a concentration in Art & Aesthetics. His thesis is on Kafka's The Castle, and the author's relation to Taoist philosophy. He is also interested in contemporary art, art criticism and curatorial practices.
